a couple of wise words

“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day, you’re 17 and praying for someday, and then quietly and without you really noticing, someday is today, and then someday is yesterday, and this is your life. We spend so much time wanting, pursuing, wishing. But ambition is good, chasing things with integrity is good, dreaming. If you had a friend you knew you’d never see again, what would you say? If you could do one last thing for someone you love, what would it be? Say it. Do it. Don’t wait. Nothing lasts forever. Make a wish and place it in your heart. Anything you want, everything you want. Do you have it? Good. Now believe it can come true. You never know where the next miracle’s going to come from, the next memory, the next smile, the next wish come true. But if you believe that it’s right around the corner, you open your heart and mind to the possibility of it, to the certainty of it, you just might get the thing you’re wishing for. The world is full of magic. You just have to believe in it. So make your wish. Do you have it? Good. Now believe in it with all your heart.”
The Last Words of One Tree Hill

A couple of days ago one of my favourite teachers asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. I forget for what reason, it must of been to prove one of his points. Anyway, so he asks this well known question. Around we go, three doctors, one astro-physist, one pastry-chef, one professional football player (at fourteen we have still kept the dreams we dreamt at the age of five), an actress, one flute-player, three teachers, at least ten "I don't know"s and two shrugs. Then, it comes around to me.
"What about you, Zoé?" I am asked.
I look down at my nails pick at my cuticles, and evenly reply "Well, I wouldn't say I know what I want to do but I know who I want to be."
I hear a couple of impatient sighs from around the classroom, why can't she just give a proper answer?
"And what is that?" My teacher asks.
I look up. Now, I don't know whether my eyes were shining with the shadows of my dreams, or what, but this is what I said.
I wanted to write. And I wanted to travel.
A traveller who records her experiences on paper, that is who I have decided to be.
Now I have a serious question for you. Is it better to do the thing you love, but not be paid much to do it. Or to have a mundane job and be wealthy because of it?

  1. DO something you love even if you don't get paid for it , AND if you are extremely lUCKY someone will pay you for doing what you love :)

  2. I think the former. If you do something you love, you will be happier within yourself, rather than having to put on fake happiness for the people who pay you. If you do something for nothing and you feel good at the same time, you know that's what you are meant for. I think, self accomplishment and fulfilling your dreams so they spill over is what I'm trying to say.

  3. I like the new organisation of your blog Lotus. The tab for your tumblr is also creative. How did you do it? ("believe...in...true love")
